The Future is LED

LEDs are fast becoming the standard technology for turn indicators and rear lights. However, there is one factor that causes car manufacturers to hesitate using LEDs, and that is that compared to incandescent lighting LED lighting is more expensive still compared to fixtures. However, their long life and compact form make a strong argument for LEDs to be installed. This is especially true since it is very important for safety purposes that turn signals and rear lights work when necessary. LEDs also have a long life which is another strong argument for aftermarket LEDs to replace incandescent light bulbs in the turn signals and rear lights.

LED used for replacing conventional light bulbs are manufactured out of assemblies of several different LEDs. This is due to the fact that light is emitted by LEDS in a really narrow angle and when compared to incandescent bulbs LEDs don’t have as strong of a light intensity. Therefore it is necessary to use several LEDs that emit light in various directions in order to make LED fixtures for uae as ambient lighting or so that LED light is visible from every angle. There is one LED feature that is starting to transform automotive lighting design, which is their ability for emitting light of various colors.

All colors coming from one LED light

RGB LEDs have been designed so that are able to emit all color lights from one LED unit. There are two ways they can be built. They are either made with three lights that are combined in a single unit, with one emitting blue, one green and one red light, or they are made as one LED that has three different substances emitting blue, green and red light whenever current is applied. When the voltage that is applied is varied, these may be made so they emit any combination of these three colors. Blue, green and red that are mixed together at the same bright brights are perceived as white light by the human eye. Also the eyes will perceive other mixtures as different colors (this is used in printing as well, where blue, green and red are used for creating all colors that part of the visible spectrum). The multi color feature of these products means that one strip of these can be made to perform several different functions: to light up in a white color for backing up, to blink amber when making a turn, emit an intense and pulsating or bright red light when braking, and display red rear driving lights. They may also be made to light up at the same time, either sequentially for creating running turn signals or as a one unit, depending on how the circuitry that governs the LEDs is configured. Example of this particular  feature may be used in practical ways are Putco Lighting’s Tailgate LED Light Bar and Fire and Ice Light Bar.

LEDs may be hidden awayLED Headlight Reviews

Seeing as they are small, it is possible to make them in thin light strips that can be turned and twisted and put into places where there isn’t any room for conventional lights. Running lights are one of the prominent uses. Light is emitted to make a vehicle more visible, and also can be done in certain shapes that give the vehicle a unique character. The Audi is a well known example of this. Their trademark has become its LED whiskers. LEDs are perfect for running lights, since they are maintenance free, do not consume a lot of energy and don’t burn out. You can save money when you install aftermarket LED lighting running if your car uses low beams as its automatic running lights. Once you have installed running lights, the expensive incandescent bulbs that are in your low beams may be turned off, and therefore considerably prolong their lifespan. These strips may be made very thin so that when they are not turned on they are practically invisible. One example of this is the Lightning Eyes Headlight Kit by Plasmaglow. The strip may be mounted within the small space in between the body and headlight. When the vehicle is parked it is barely noticeable. LED strips are commonly used by both aftermarket and vehicle manufacturers for foot well lights, door lights and under dash lighting. They are also used as contour lights and side markers on custom builds, trucks and emergency vehicles.

Headlights

Here they  are also starting to substitute headlights. The 2007 Lexus LS600 hybrid was the first vehicle that used LEDs for this purpose. The brightness level of L.E.D’s  now make it possible for them to be used for this very demanding type of vehicle lighting fixture. As LED prices continue to go down, an increasing number of headlights will most certainly be installed to replace incandescent bulbs. How there are a number of problems that must be solved before these, they are the preferred light source for headlights. Although They run cooler compared to incandescent bulbs, they also don’t emit as much light whenever the temperature increases. Even LEDs get fairly hot when power is applied that needed for emitting the lumens for headlights. Therefore making them emit lots of light is a real battle for developers. Another obstacle is that LED emits light via a very narrow light without manipulation.

These extra bright headlights that are made these days combine intricate cooling devices, advanced optical design and advanced LED design for adequate performance. It gets quite expensive. However, given the rapid development that the field is experiencing, we will certainly be seeing more efficient and new LED headlight designs in the near future.

The future looks bright for LEDs

Incandescent bulbs have been around for about 140 years and have not developed much over this time. By contrast the development rate for LEDs has been quite rapid. Every 36 months the performance of LEDs has doubled. This development rate compares to the computer’s fast paced development. The future of automotive lighting definitely belongs with LEDs.
